Beyond the Edge
This portrait was born when I stopped searching for perfection and began searching for truth.
While some hide the traces of the pencil, I chose to leave them: they are the foundation, the very first breath of this work. Some fear the way water challenges the paper, but I embraced it, allowing the noble 300g professional cotton fibers—crafted in historic French paper mills—to arch and ripple under the weight of an emotion that refused to remain flat. The drips you see are not mistakes; they are proof that I was not afraid to lose control, trusting in the purity of Windsor & Newton pigments as they glide from the intensity of the gaze to the ethereal transparencies of powder blue and lilac.
This watercolor claims its right to be alive through the eternal light that only materials of such excellence can guarantee. It is a piece of me, from my drawing table in Piedmont, Italy, with all its splendid ‘imperfections’ that tell a story of absolute authenticity. For a soul beyond the edges.
